Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Doniyor Ganiev proposed introducing a tax for the entry of cars into the center of Tashkent and using the collected funds to make travel on buses free.
“I have a more radical proposal. Make the bus free for everyone. According to calculations, this will cost the city government 300 billion soums per year,” he wrote on his X page.
He noted that the funds could be offset by a daily tax on the entry of cars into the city center.
According to the deputy, US$100,000 can be earned daily from 100,000 cars if cars moving in the center of the capital are taxed at US$1 per day.
Doniyor Ganiev noted that this will allow car owners to transfer to buses, which will reduce traffic jams. This will also help streamline traffic on the roads.
