More than two tons of banned substances were burned in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 June, in Yangikhayot district of the capital, in honor of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, celebrated annually on 26 June, law enforcement agencies organized an event to eliminate narcotic drugs seized from illicit trafficking, reports press service of the Customs Committee.

At the event, with the participation of representatives of the general public and the media, a total of about 2 tons 51 kg of drugs were destroyed by burning in special ovens.

It was noted that as a result of the activities carried out by customs officers together with representatives of other law enforcement agencies, in 2022 and over the past period of 2023, a total of 952 kg of illegal drugs, 440 thousand units of potent and more than 7 thousand units of psychotropic substances were detected. Among them were 245 kg of heroin, 300 kg of hashish, 143 kg of opium, 228 kg of synthetic drugs, 31 kg of marijuana, 67,000 Tramadol tablets, which were confiscated as material evidence.

In turn, the press service of the State Security Service reported that law enforcement agencies, in cooperation with units of the State Security Service, solved 1,279 drug-related crimes in 2022. At the same time, it was noted that cases related to synthetic drugs began to be detected more often in the republic. In particular, last year more than 32 kg of synthetic drugs were seized from illicit trafficking, mainly such as mephedrone, amphetamine, Alfa-PVP and MDMA.

Also, within the framework of international cooperation, in 2022, together with the Federal Security Service of Russia, the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, 9 events and special operations were carried out, 11 drug criminals were detained and 166.4 kg of narcotic drugs were seized.

According to the Customs Committee, today, in order to detect smuggling, border customs posts are equipped with 23 inspection systems, 15 scanners, 202 X-ray machines and other necessary means. In addition, the National Cynological Center of the Customs Committee trains cynologists and service dogs to combat illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, potent and psychotropic substances.

Last year 1,933 tons of narcotic drugs were destroyed in Tashkent with representatives of the international community and the media.
