Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- By 2026, mobile stations for reloading municipal solid waste will be created at landfills in Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan. In addition, new polygons will be reconstructed and built. 

What will be done within the framework of the project in 2024-2026:

- in Zaamin and Sharaf-Rashidov districts, 3 landfills for municipal solid waste, a composting and waste sorting complex at 5 sites will be built;

– 6 landfills will be built in Zarbdor, Arnasay, Pakhtakor, Mirzachul, Yangiabad and Bakhmal districts;

- at the landfill in Sharaf-Rashidov district, an exhaust gas collection unit with a capacity of 500 kW-1 MW and an exhaust gas collection system that can be connected to a power plant with a capacity of 500 kW-1 MW will be built;

– install a medical waste incinerator with a capacity of 5-10 tons per day;

- Acquisition of special equipment and devices for the landfill.

To strengthen the material and technical base of landfills, there are 5 special machines for compacting solid waste landfills, 12 special machines for transporting containers, 28 containers with a capacity of 60 cubic meters for a waste transfer station, 5 bulldozers, 5 excavators, 5 forklifts, 5 dump trucks and composting equipment.

The project will cost almost US$100 million. Of these, US$6.6 million are grant funds. Another US$90 million is a loan allocated by the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund of the Republic of Korea EDCF.

The project will be implemented as part of the Memorandum on the organization and development of the waste management industry, signed on 2 December 2021 between the South Korean Institute of Environmental Industry and Technology (KEITI) and the Khokimiyat of Jizzakh region.

It should be noted that today in Uzbekistan more and more attention is paid to the issue of waste. Various measures are being taken in this area, for example, new landfills are being built. In Tashkent, there is a two-stage garbage collection system, which we talked about in more detail earlier.
