Mishustin calls Uzbekistan a reliable partner and emphasizes transport connectivity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin proposed that Uzbekistan focus on enhancing transportation connectivity between the two countries.

In his speech at the 5th session of the Joint Commission at the level of the heads of government of Russia and Uzbekistan, Mishustin emphasized that the strong partnership between Russia and Uzbekistan is built on principles of equality, mutual respect, and consideration of each other’s interests.

Economic and investment cooperation is actively expanding, with Russia leading in external trade volumes with Uzbekistan. In 2023, trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan increased by 11.5%, surpassing 820 billion rubles. In the first half of 2024, it grew by nearly 9%. The targets set by the leaders of both countries aim to triple this figure, and Mishustin noted that all necessary opportunities for achieving this strategic goal are in place.

Regular contacts between Russia and Uzbekistan occur at all levels. The intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation plays a significant role in addressing practical issues. In 2024, interregional interaction reached a new level with the first meeting of the Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, attended by the heads of states.

"We anticipate that interregional relations will strengthen and lead to the initiation of new, in-demand projects in various fields, including joint industrial zones," Mishustin said.

The Russian Prime Minister also suggested focusing on enhancing transportation connectivity between the countries, developing reliable international logistics corridors to increase cargo and passenger transportation volumes.
