Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan: power stations may not have enough fuel to generate electricity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Interruptions in the supply of electricity are not related to outdated or faulty equipment. This was announced today by Deputy Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjaev. Power plants are running out of gas.

He acknowledged the errors in the system and that, there are shortcomings in the production. “Therefore, we ask the population to be frugal, we do not want to make excuses,” he added.

Sherzod Khodjaev said that "our stations may not have enough fuel to generate electricity."

According to him, 90% of electricity in Uzbekistan is generated by thermal power plants, of which about 85% run on natural gas.

According to him, Uzbekistan stopped the export of natural gas and electricity. Energy imports increased by 20%. He noted that the current situation should not lead to power outages for 8-10 hours.

The Deputy Minister noted that in the event of a power outage for more than half an hour, they will find out the reasons. If necessary, the perpetrators will be punished.

Sherzod Khodjaev also said that soon the issue of restrictions would be resolved by 80%.

The Deputy Minister of Energy also stated that Lukoil is fulfilling all its obligations on production of gas.
