Meeting with representatives of the World Bank on the issue of decarbonization of the economy of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 February, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan with representatives of the World Bank on planning the decarbonization of the economy of Uzbekistan.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the World Bank on Energy under the leadership of Sylvia Dokzi, Senior Energy Economist, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform about the progress of work on the Economic Decarbonization Plan and its analysis, which is the basis of the National Climate and Development Report (CCDR - Country Climate and Development Report), to present and discuss the main assumptions, preliminary results on the list of carbon neutrality scenarios and subsequent Steps.

The meeting participants discussed such issues as analytical approaches and links between the National Climate Development Report (CCDR) and the Long-Term Strategy for the Decarbonization of the Economy (LTS), existing policies and trends, as well as the way to achieve carbon neutrality in the energy, transport, industrial and other sectors. 

Among other things, the experts announced scenarios for the transition to alternative and renewable energy sources, reducing the energy consumption of buildings through repairs and the use of more efficient, low-carbon technologies. At the same time, scenarios are presented for the development, extraction and consumption of fuel and energy resources (coal, natural gas, oil products, electricity, etc.) in such areas as industry, transport, energy, agriculture, as well as among the population.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to present the preliminary results of the National Report on Climate and Development in February of this year and the measures to be taken to complete this report in the first half of this year.
