Measures to be taken to improve the seismic resistance of buildings and structures

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Presidential Decree “On measures to increase the seismic resistance of buildings and structures, as well as improve seismic hazard monitoring activities” was adopted.

According to the Resolution:

from 1 June 2024, in seismically active zones with an intensity of 8 points and higher on the MSK-64 scale, when planning new construction, the practice of designing medical facilities above 5 floors and buildings above 9 floors with active seismic protection devices, including seismic insulation and dampers, will be established.

From 1 July 2024, at new facilities planned for construction of III-IV hazard categories, it will be mandatory to install a device for automatic monitoring of load-bearing structures of buildings and structures.

By 1 July 2024, regional accelerograms will be digitized across the territories of all districts and cities of the republic, and their online databases will be formed.

From 1 August 2024, a procedure will be introduced for the design and construction of facilities of III – IV categories of hazard factor based on the database of regional accelerograms indicating the strength of the earthquake in the territory.

From 1 June 2024, a procedure will be introduced for the design of new facilities planned for construction of III – IV categories of hazard factor with a system for automatically blocking gas and electrical networks during a strong earthquake.

Until 1 July 2024, work will be carried out to restore existing buildings and structures, the technical condition of which is recognized as unsatisfactory, using the method of “strengthening compensatory injection technology and returning deformation to its previous state” on an experimental basis.

From 1 May 2024, the practice of submitting monthly reports on seismic hazards and earthquake forecasts to local authorities will be established.

An Association of Earthquake Engineering Scientists (Association) will be established.
