Measures have been identified to improve Uzbekistan’s position in the World Bank Index “Women, Business and Law”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the meeting of the Senate Kengash, attention was also paid to the issue of improving the position of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the World Bank Index “Women, Business and Law”.

It was noted that the World Bank Index “Women, Business and Law” is included in the list of international ratings and indices that are priorities for the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the State Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs, as well as the Ministry of Employment and labor relations (now the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction, as well as the Committee on Family and Women).

According to the results of the 2021 Index, our country for the first time became one of 27 countries that have implemented significant reforms in the field of women’s rights and gender equality, and with a score of 70.6 points, it rose by 5 positions and took 134th place among 190 countries (139th place in 2019). However, over the past two years this figure has not changed.

The meeting heard information from the Committee on Family and Women under the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction, as well as the ministry itself on the ongoing work to improve Uzbekistan’s position in the Index.

It was noted that according to the most key performance indicators (KPIs) for Uzbekistan within the framework of priority international ratings in the Index, it was determined that our country should have scored 73.7 points in 2021 and 88.1 in 2022, but these indicators were not achieved.

During the meeting, measures were identified to improve our country’s performance on structural indicators, which are regularly rated low within the Index.

Thus, measures were approved in the areas of developing international cooperation in working with the Index, including interaction with international organizations and local experts involved in the preparation of the report, as well as improving national legislation.

After discussions on this issue, a corresponding resolution was adopted by the Senate Kengash
