Last month the group of Australian tourists visited the ancient town of Shakhrisabz in the Province of Kashkadarya, the birthplace of the great commander and statesman Amir Temur, Jahon news agency reported quoting UzA.
The newspaper wrote that "it was nothing to be surprised about such visits since this ancient city alongside with other historical centers in Uzbekistan attract hundreds, thousands of tourists from around the globe".
According to the paper, the overseas visitors to Shakhrisabz had demonstrated the profound opportunities of public diplomacy by making the first contribution to the establishment of the long-term friendly relations between Shakhrisabz and Sydney.
"Our group has handed over the personal letter by Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore to the Khokim of Shakhrisabz Uktam Khidirov," the group leader Helen Martin has said, "and the letter, in particular, reads as follows: The visit by the group of the ancient city opens up new opportunities both for people of Uzbekistan and Australia to better learn the two traditions".
The newspaper further wrote that the residents of Shakhrisabz had accepted the letter, souvenirs, and wrote a reply message to the Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore. The letter read that the people of Shakhrisabz took close and understood well the ideas of interaction and mutual relations of various cultures and traditions by way of public diplomacy.
