Matthieu Le Blan heads EBRD office in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Matthieu Le Blan will head the office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Uzbekistan.

Matthieu Le Blan will replace Fernand Pillonel, who had worked in this post since 2006. Prior to appointment Matthieu Le Blan headed the EBRD office in Tajikistan.

The EBRD is an international financial institution that supports projects in 30 countries from central Europe to central Asia. Investing primarily in private sector clients whose needs cannot be fully met by the market, the Bank promotes entrepreneurship and fosters transition towards open and democratic market economies.

The EBRD is the largest single investor in the region and also mobilises significant foreign direct investment into its countries of operations. The Bank invests mainly in private enterprises, usually together with commercial partners. It provides project financing for the financial sector and the real economy, both new ventures and investments in existing companies. It also works with publicly-owned companies to support privatisation, restructuring of state-owned firms and improvement of municipal services.

Owned by 61 countries and two intergovernmental institutions, the EBRD maintains a close political dialogue with governments, authorities and representatives of civil society to promote its goals. In all its operations the EBRD follows the highest standards of corporate governance and sustainable development. As a public institution the EBRD is committed to a rigorous public information policy.

EBRD said on its website that it financed 44 projects in Uzbekistan as of 1 January 2008. Net business volume comprised 449.8 million euros. Total project value is US$1.169 billion euros.
