Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Masdar, a global leader in renewable energy, plans to double its investments in Uzbekistan’s energy sector, increasing them from the current US$2 billion to US$4 billion in the coming years. This was announced by Abdullah Zayed, Business Development and Project Director of the company, in an interview with Uzbekiston 24 TV channel.
According to Masdar’s representative, the company has already achieved significant success in the Uzbek market. Its projects currently provide Uzbekistan with 1.5 gigawatts of renewable energy, with an additional 0.5 gigawatts under construction. These efforts aim to reach a total capacity of 4 gigawatts, which will supply energy to even more households and increase the country’s contribution to "green" energy production.
The company is actively implementing projects in various areas of renewable energy, including a wind power station in Zarafshan, solar power plants in Karmana and Galaaraal, as well as the construction of new photovoltaic stations in Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions.
Additionally, during the United Nations Climate Conference COP29 held in Baku in November 2024, an agreement was signed to implement a project for the construction of a 1,000-megawatt wind power station in Uchquduq district of Navoi region, Uzbekistan. The project will generate 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 1.4 million tons.
Looking ahead, Abdullah Zayed noted that the company plans not only to continue developing projects in solar and wind energy but also to invest in the creation of energy storage facilities and hydroelectric power plants.
The main goal is to strengthen Masdar’s position in the Uzbek energy market and ensure long-term cooperation with the country’s government, which actively supports the development of green energy and creates attractive conditions for investors.
Thanks to the support of the Uzbek government and a strategic approach, Masdar is confidently moving towards doubling its investment volumes and expanding its activities in the country, which, according to the company’s management, will be an important contribution to Uzbekistan’s sustainable economic and ecological development.
"Our company already provides energy to more than 1 million households, and our goal is to double this number," he said.
It is worth noting that Uzbekistan plans to increase its renewable energy capacity to over 20 gigawatts by 2030, which will constitute approximately 40% of the total energy balance.
