Martin Chungong receives the Human Rights Badge in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong was among those awarded the badge “For the Protection of Human Rights” in 2023.

A friend and permanent partner of Uzbekistan received this award for his contribution to the development of international cooperation in the field of human rights.

During the visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan to Switzerland on 10-12 December to participate in official and cultural events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a meeting was also held with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. During the conversation, the head of the delegation - First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights Akmal Saidov solemnly presented the award to the owner.

Martin Chungong noted that the Parliament of Uzbekistan plays a special role in the activities of the international organization it heads, as well as in the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the successful implementation of joint events. In this regard, he expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his great contribution to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.

During the dialogue, it was once again recognized that the resolution “On strengthening the role of parliaments in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”, adopted by the UN General Assembly on 14 December 2022, is the result of an initiative by Uzbekistan.

According to the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Uzbekistan has incomparable experience in the field of social protection and ensuring gender equality, improving the quality of medical services, increasing the level of education of the population and working with youth.

At the end of the conversation, Martin Chungong thanked the parliament of our country for its statement of readiness to hold the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled for 2025, in Uzbekistan.
