Malaysia, Uzbekistan hold meeting to boost trade
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Malaysia and Uzbekistan recently held their second joint trade committee (JTC) meeting in Tashkent where discussions focussed on ways to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Malaysian delegation was led by International Trade and Industry Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat, while the Uzbek side was headed by Nasriddin Najimov, who is first deputy minister of foreign economic relations, investments and trade, Bernama reported.

They discussed possibilities for cooperation in the development of small and medium enterprises, promotion of trade and investment, and organisation of exhibitions and business forums, a statement from Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Dubai office, said.

Both sides were also eyeing other potential areas of cooperation such as healthcare, tourism, information-communication technology as well as business consultancy services.

In addition, Malaysia highlighted opportunities in convenience and health food, seafood products, palm oil and palm oil-based products, cocoa-based products and processed fruits.

Other areas include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and nutraceuticals as well as logistics services.

During the Oct 20 meeting, Malaysia had also proposed to organise a business forum on trade and investment opportunities in both countries.

The first JTC meeting between Malaysia and Uzbekistan was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2005.
