Light industry’s growth makes up 47.1% in eleven months of 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The growth of light industry in Uzbekistan made up 47.1% in eleven months of 2010, Norodnoye Slovo newspaper reported.

The report said Uzbekistan has own resource base, which allows to produce over 1 million tonnes of cotton-fiber and over 250,000 tonnes of yarn a year. The country has full production infrastructure, ensuring stable supply of energy utilities – gas, electricity and developed logistics.

Important moment is that local enterprises receive 15% discount from world prices on purchase of cotton-fibers and they have access to largest foreign markets in CIS and Europe. This helped to turn Uzbekistan into one of the world centers of textile production and large exporter.

Light industry has high rating among industries, which are exporting goods or services. The industry exports wide range of products from yarn to ready products. For last year, the export of industry rose by 60% to US$600 million. The geography of exports is also increasing and China, Iran, Greece, Israel, Great Britain and the USA became traditional export markets.

Currently, Uzbekyengilsanoat state joint stock company unites 250 enterprises in six industries - cotton, silk, knitted, sewing, nonwoven and others. They can produce 300 tonnes of cotton yarn, 59,000 tonnes of stockinet, 152 million square meters of cotton fabrics, 150 million units of , 20 million pairs of hosiery products, 1,400 tonnes of silk threads, as well as ready-made garments and china products. The programme on development of industry, which is currently realized, will almost double production potential.

Among priority directions can be noted production of resource-intensive products, including terry products, domestic textile, knitwork and garments, technical fabrics. The works on optimization of prime cost will be also undertaken. The investment projects will be directed at concrete demands of internal and external markets.

During independence years, over 100 enterprises with foreign investors from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Korea, Japan, USA, India and others were opened in Uzbekistan. In 2009, fifteen new enterprises with the capacity of 43,000 tonnes of yarn, 1,500 tonnes of stockinet, and 6 million pairs of hosiery. Over 20 new capacities were launched in 2010.

Currently 77% of textile products, manufactured in Uzbekistan, fell to joint ventures and foreign enterprises, which are equipped with modern equipments of leading machinery producers.
