Legislative Chamber approves Concept of foreign political activities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law “On approval of the Concept of foreign political activities of Uzbekistan”. The document was directed to Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for consideration.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov submitted the document to Legislative Chamber as legislative initiative.

The concept was developed for further improving conceptual bases of foreign policy of Uzbekistan in order timely and adequate response to challenges and threats in the region and the world as a whole, strengthening national security.

The concept was developed taking into account real modern international relations, geoeconomic and geopolitical situation in the region and the world, processes of globalization and their impact to international relation.

Protection and promotion of national interests are key factors in development of the international relations, the document said.

Strengthening state independence and sovereignty, further strengthening role of Uzbekistan in international life as full-fledged member of international relations, taking place among democratically developed states, creating around Uzbekistan security, stability and good neighborhood space are main goals of the foreign political activities of Uzbekistan, which is based on priorities of national interests of Uzbekistan and equal rights in cooperation.

The document said that Uzbekistan reserves right to join unions, commonwealths and other intergovernmental establishments and exit them based on interests of the state, people, its well-being and security.

"Uzbekistan is pursuing a peaceful policy and does not participate in military-political blocs, reserves the right to withdraw from all of interstate establishments in the event of their transformation into a military-political bloc" - the document says.

"Uzbekistan is taking political, economic and other measures to prevent its involvement in armed conflicts and tensions in neighboring countries", - stated in the document. The country also does not allow on its territory the stationing of foreign military bases and facilities. Uzbekistan does not participate in peacekeeping operations abroad, according to the concept.

The main priority of foreign policy of Uzbekistan is the Central Asian region as the vital interests of Uzbekistan connected with the region, the concept said.

The adoption of effective measures to combat cross-border threats, establishing a close, mutually beneficial and constructive cooperation with all neighboring countries are also the priorities of Uzbekistan in the region.

"Uzbekistan has always remained committed to conducting an open, friendly and pragmatic policy towards its neighbors" - said the concept. Uzbekistan stands for the solution of pressing political, economic and environmental problems of the region based on mutual interests, constructive dialogue and in line with international law. As noted in the Concept, the problems of Central Asia should be settled by the states in the region without the interference of external forces.

The paper also focuses on the issues of diversification of trade, economic, technological, transport and other relations of Uzbekistan, increasing the process of attracting foreign direct investment and advanced technologies in the priority sectors of the national economy, which will play key role for the growth potential, power and competitiveness of the economy of Uzbekistan.
