Legislative Chamber adopts a bill to ratify the ILO Convention on Part-Time Work

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the regular plenary meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the draft law “On the ratification of the International Labor Organization Convention No. 175 on part-time work (Geneva, on 24 June 1994)” was considered.

The Convention provides protection for part-time employees, as well as protection against discrimination in wages and social security. Currently, 20 countries have ratified this Convention.

When developing the Convention, the current recommendations of such Conventions as “On Equal Remuneration”, “On Discrimination in Employment and Occupation” and “On Workers with Family Responsibilities” for part-time employees were taken into account.

Requirements for the working conditions of part-time workers, their protection from discrimination in wages and social security are reflected in the new edition of the Labor Code.

The deputies noted the expediency of ratifying this Convention, taking into account the development in recent years of cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the International Labor Organization, and the current state of national labor legislation that complies with international labor standards.

Uzbekistan’s accession to this Convention will serve to further improve national legislation, effectively implement international standards to protect the labor rights of part-time workers, pay them and social security against discrimination, as well as ensure the employment of workers.

In addition, conditions will be created for the integration of Uzbekistan in the future with international and regional organizations, including the World Trade Organization, and cooperation with the European Union within the framework of the General (Main) System of Preferences will be further developed.

At the meeting, the draft law was adopted in the third reading.
