Leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan discuss bilateral ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov had a telephone conversation with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on 17 January 2010.

Exchanging the warm, fraternal greetings, the two leaders reaffirmed that Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan were committed to the dialogue of friendship, good neighbourliness and fruitful partnership, which had been filled with a new concrete content today.

During the telephone conversation held on the initiative of the Uzbek side, the leaders of two countries exchanged views on the current state and priorities of bilateral cooperation based on the versatile economic potential and historical, spiritual and cultural affinities of the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples. The sides also discussed the topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

Focusing with satisfaction on the high dynamics of interstate relations initially built on good faith, constructiveness, mutual respect and confidence, the leaders of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan put emphasis on the existing broadest opportunities to foster partnerships as well as the mutual intention of the states to implement more fully the opportunities opened up to enhance effective ties in all areas.

During the conversation President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov invited President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan in the first half of the current year. This invitation was accepted with gratitude. Dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
