Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 April, a meeting between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took place in the city of Khiva.

At the meeting, issues of further strengthening the strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as expanding practical cooperation, were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to accelerating cooperation projects, implementation of investment agreements and trade contracts, in accordance with previously reached agreements at the highest level.

The heads of states also listened to reports from the Deputy Prime Ministers on the progress of joint projects in various fields, such as mechanical engineering, energy, transport, mining, textile and food industries.

The presidents gave specific instructions to increase trade turnover, develop an industrial cooperation program and implement infrastructure projects in the field of transport and energy.

The importance of starting work on the creation of the International Center for Industrial Cooperation this year, as well as expanding the activities of the joint foreign trade company, was noted.

Issues of developing humanitarian and tourism ties, holding joint events in the field of culture, education and sports were also discussed.

The parties exchanged views on regional issues, including the rational use of water resources and cooperation within the framework of the Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia, as well as a discussion of the situation in Afghanistan.

The schedule of upcoming joint events in various formats was reviewed.

The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere characteristic of relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
