Law on electricity enters into force in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a law “On electricity” on 30 September 2009. Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed on 24 June 2009 and Senate approved it on 28 August 2009.

New law consists of eight chapters and 35 articles. The law, which entered into force on 1 October 2009, regulates relations in production, transfer, distribution, sale and consumption of electricity in Uzbekistan.

The document also covers issues of state policy in electricity, licensing in the sphere, legal status of national electricity networks, organization of electricity market, etc.

Uzbekenergo, uniting over 50 organizations, supplies electricity to consumers in Uzbekistan. The generating capacity of the company is over 12 million kilowatt.
