Law-enforcers discuss human trafficking in Uzbek capital
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In most cases, women and young people fall victim to those who have found an "unusual" way of making money. Above all, attention is now being paid, of course, to international cooperation to fight the problem of human trafficking. The law against human trafficking was issued in Uzbekistan in 2008.

The other day the coordination council of the capital’s law enforcement agencies held a meeting on the topic of "Uncovering and investigating crimes related to human trafficking as well as the state of the prosecutor’s supervision in this field". All the district prosecutors of the capital, their deputies, the heads of all district internal affairs departments, their deputies and officials from other relevant organizations attended the meeting.

During the meeting, issues of uncovering and investigating crimes related to human-trafficking and the state of the prosecutor’s supervision in this field were analysed based on the operational plan of the city prosecutor’s office for the first half of 2009.

It was especially emphasized at the meeting that several campaigns had been jointly held with other law-enforcement agencies to fight human trafficking and bring home to the public about its bad consequences. Besides, it was also noted that the city mayor’s office, in cooperation with the prosecutor’s office and other law-enforcement agencies, had made several appearances in the media and held various meetings at [higher] educational institutions, schools, academic lyceums, vocational schools and mahallas [local neighbourhood].

Apart from this, the meeting also discussed the clear-up rate for human trafficking crimes, analysed some criminal cases and noted mistakes and shortcomings in the work of some districts in this field, as well as noted the need to pay particular attention to protecting the victims of this malady.

At the end of the meeting, relevant decisions were taken to remedy the shortcomings; and measures were also defined to further step up the human trafficking awareness campaign in the future.
