Launch of Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline becomes important event in 2009
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Launch of Trans-Asian gas pipeline, largest energy pipeline of the 21st century, became important event in 2009. Leaders of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and China participated at the opening of pipeline in December 2009.

This event became important step in realization of the efforts of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on development of intergovernmental regional cooperation.

Main complex of Trans-Asian gas pipeline, which will supply large volume of Turkmen natural gas to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, was built in Samandepe, Turkmenistan. In short period of time, over 7,000 km of pipelines were laid, which will export 40 billion cubic meters of gas annually to China next 30 years. Representatives of various companies participated in the project implementation, which meets all ecologic standards.

Total length of gas pipeline, passing through territory of Turkmenistan is 184.5 km, Uzbekistan – 490 km, Kazakhstan – 1,300 km and China – 4,500 km. High technologies and bold engineering solutions were used in construction of energy pipeline. At the construction of pipeline, the constructors carried out difficult work on laying 1,740 meters pipelines with diameter of 1,420 mm underground to pass Amudarya.

The project of new energy bridge reflects the idea on rehabilitating the Great Silk Road, which connected people of Eurasian continent for thousand years.

Tukmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline became demonstrates readiness of partner countries to boost and expand cooperation based on such principles as longevity, euality and mutual equality.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP was established in 1947 and its headquarters is located in Bangkok, Thailand. The organization has 62 member-governments.

It is expected that the pipeline will become serious factor for energy security in Asia.
