President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev signed the law “On ratification of protocol on use of the agreement on free trade zone from 18 October 2011 between its member states and Uzbekistan”. The parliament of Kyrgyzstan approved the document on 25 January 2017.

The agreement on the free trade zone was signed at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States on 18 October 2011 in the city of St. Petersburg by eight CIS member states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine). All the above-mentioned countries (except Tajikistan) have ratified the agreement.

The protocol on the application of the Free Trade Zone Treaty dated 18 October 2011 between its Parties and the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed in Minsk on 31 May 2013.

The protocol contains annexes on the application of export, import customs duties and the application of prohibitions and quantitative restrictions.

According to the Protocol, the Kyrgyz Republic reserves the right to apply customs duties on the export of goods destined for the customs territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan ratified the protocol in December 2013.
