Korean doctors carry out charity operations in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Four groups of doctors from Pundan Hospital under the Seoul National University carried out charity operations in Uzbekistan on 9-21 May 2011 within the “Health in Family” Project.

About 45 specialists in orthopaedy, cardiology and maxillofacial surgery carried out charity operation of patients, who need urgent operative surgery and represent social vulnerable population.

The Korean doctors carried out 30 operations to fix malformation of mouth cavity, 10 cardiologic operations and 12 operations of children orthopaedy. Some 400 people received free dental treatment.

Fund Forum, Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, Women’s Council and “In the Name of Life” National Breast Cancer Association organized this large-scale project “Health in family”.

From 9 to 14 May, group of orthopaedy and cardiology led by Professor Jong Sand Hun carried out medical examinations and operations. Operations of patients with inborn heart diseases and defects of musculoskeletal system was held at the Scientific Center of Extraordinary Medical Aid and clinic of Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute under the Health Ministry.

Professor Pak Moon-sook, orthopaedist, said that this is his first visit to abroad as medical specialist and he expressed his satisfaction with the visit. “The Uzbek people are hospitable. I conducted 10 operations within my visit and all of them were successful. I had two goals – to help children and exchange experience with local doctors. I am planning to return to Uzbekistan again and carry out several operations.”

Shokhista Ibragimova from Tashkent said that her daughter Shakhzoda, 8, underwent operation and she hopes that her daughter will be much better after the operation.

Dilafruz Mirahmedova from Tashkent said that Pak Moon-sook operated his son, Haytobek Yuldashev, 6. She said she pins high hopes to this operation.

A group of maxillofacial surgeons led by Kim Men Jin operated patients with defects of mouth oral cavity at the Tashkent Medical Academy and Dental Hospital No. 5 on 15-21 May. The Korean doctors also treated patients after the operations. The Korean doctors will bring all necessary equipment and medicaments with them from South Korea.

Kim Young Hoon, dentist and social worker, said that the similar actions were carried out in other countries. Kim Young Hoon underlined that the doctors treated mouth oral cavity and toothes and expressed hope to strengthen relations with the Fund Forum.

Mahmud Dusmuhammedov, professor of Tashkent Medical Academy, said that the campaign helped the Uzbek doctors to familiarize with experience of the Korean specialists. He added that the academy is planning to send a group of students to Seoul University to study.
