Korean Air head says Navoi to become Central Asia’s logistic hub
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Final aim of the Korean Air is to develop Navoi airport to level of logistic hub of Central Asia, Korean Air President Chi Chang Hoon said in interview to Jahon news agency.

President Chi Chang Hoon underlined that beneficial geopolitical location of Navoi economic zone, located in the center of Great Silk Road, is important advantage, which will allow Uzbekistan to act as important link between Asian and European states in logistics sphere.

He said that the Uzbekistani government crated wide-scale Navoi free industrial-economic zone in central part of Uzbekistan and currently actively attracts foreign investments. Chi Chang Hoon said that the firm intention of the Uzbek government to carry out economic development with direct attraction of investments and advanced technology of Korean Air will surely help to develop Navoi Airport to the level of largest international logistic center in Central Asia.

In past period of time, Korean Air made a huge work necessary for development of infrastructure, including cargo terminal, hangars, premises for fuel storage and others. In August, new cargo terminal with the capacity of 100,000 tonnes of freight a year was launched.

He added that the company also holds internships for airport staff and adopt measures on optimization of work processes.

Chi Chang Hoon underlined: “We also work in expanding aviation communication network with other states. Currently, 12 flights carried out with Boeing-747 aircrafts and 11 flights with Airbus A-320 through Navoi airport. These evidences shows development of Navoi airport to level of international logistic center.”

Korean Air President said that the company will start to carry out new flights to Istanbul, Dubai, Almaty within a year. He added that the company also is also working on establishment of cooperation with foreign airlines.

He said that Korean Air will make all its efforts for further expanding aviation and land communication based on existing logistic base of airport, strengthening Central Asian cargo transportation market and boosting activity of Navoi airport.

Chi Chang Hoon said that Navoi is located near historic cities like Samarkand and Bukhara and has optimal conditions for tourism attraction. He said that the construction of hotels and creation of necessary infrastructure will make possible to develop Navoi as one of tourism centers in Central Asia.
