KOICA to expand the package of grants for the development of the healthcare system of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- These days, senior officials of the Ministry of Health as part of the government delegation are on a working visit to the Republic of Korea.

On the first day of the visit, a meeting was held with the Director General of the Department of Eurasian Countries of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Chun Jihyun.

As noted during the dialogue, KOICA carries out projects of gratuitous assistance to developing countries. The organization has about 50 representative offices in foreign countries.

In Uzbekistan, the KOICA office was opened in 1995. Currently, 9 major projects are being implemented in our country together with this prestigious organization, within the framework of which many local specialists, including medical workers, undergo training in Korea.

In particular, a group of medical specialists from the Seoul National University Hospital recently visited the National Children’s Medical Center in the capital. During the visit, representatives of the Korean International Cooperation Agency conducted trainings and master classes to improve the capacity of the center’s pediatricians.

At the meeting, an agreement was reached to expand the package of grants for the development of healthcare infrastructure in Uzbekistan, to accelerate the implementation of a grant project worth $15 million to implement a national program aimed at training workers in the sanitary-epidemiological service and the public health system on the basis of the Tashkent Medical Academy.

In addition, a project was considered to improve the capabilities of medical workers to conduct epidemiological research and respond to the spread of diseases, as well as a project to create an Innovative Medical Center at the Tashkent Medical Academy, including a modern vivarium and a research laboratory.

In turn, the Uzbek side invited Korean partners to take part as a co-organizer in the Uzbek-Korean Medical Forum, which is planned to be held in November this year in Tashkent.
