KOICA to allocate US$9.73 mMillion for intellectual property sevelopment in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Patent Information (KIPI) under the Korean Intellectual Property Office, conducted a study as part of the project "Enhancing the Public Administration System in the Field of Intellectual Property in Uzbekistan."
In this regard, the Ministry of Justice hosted a final meeting attended by a delegation led by Shin Myung Seop, Head of KOICA’s Uzbekistan Office, and representatives of the ministry, headed by Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikramov.
During the discussions, representatives from KOICA, KIPI, and the Ministry of Justice summarized the study’s findings, outlined the project’s key focus areas, set implementation timelines, and defined further steps for cooperation.
In his speech, Muzraf Ikramov expressed gratitude to KOICA for supporting the initiative and provided details on the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s intellectual property sector. He also discussed the country’s integration into the World Trade Organization, the adoption of international standards in national legislation, and the development of government services for intellectual property registration.
For his part, Shin Myung Seop emphasized the significance of this project in digitizing public services and achieving the strategic goals of the "Uzbekistan – 2030" program. He noted that the project’s successful implementation would strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a regional leader in intellectual property.
It is worth noting that in June 2024, the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan won KOICA’s "Country-Specific Projects and Programs" competition with its initiative to improve intellectual property management. The project has been allocated funding of US$9.73 million.
