Kazakhstan to import electricity from tajikistan via Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Kazakhstan plans to start importing electricity from Tajikistan using Uzbekistan’s transit capacities, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Energy’s press service.

Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev held discussions on energy cooperation with Tajikistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonali and Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources Manuchehr Safarzoda.

During the talks, Satkaliyev expressed appreciation for Tajikistan’s positive stance on energy cooperation. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2023 for the supply of electricity generated by the Rogun Hydropower Plant from 2023 to 2032.

“I am pleased to note that the MoU will address technical parameters and commercial conditions for the potential export of electricity from Rogun HPP to Kazakhstan, considering the technical feasibility and agreed transit regimes through Uzbekistan’s networks,” said Satkaliyev.

The parties agreed to work on agreements to regulate unscheduled electricity flows between the energy systems of neighboring countries by 15 October 2024, with relevant Central Asian organizations.
