Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 September, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi.
In particular, the Kazakh side has prepared a list of goods that can be delivered to Iran in a short time.
Also, the Kazakh side is ready to consider and support a similar list of the Iranian side. This will help achieve the goal of increasing bilateral trade to US$3 billion.
The head of state of Kazakhstan noted with satisfaction the successful development of the transit and transport corridor, the foundation of which was laid by the leaders in June in Tehran.
During the conversation, in order to further increase the transit cargo flow, the importance of developing the potential of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway line, as well as the need to use the opportunities of regular ferry service between the ports of the countries in the Caspian Sea, was noted.
The President of Kazakhstan welcomed Iran’s desire to become a full member of the SCO and expressed confidence that the accession of the Islamic Republic to the organization will strengthen regional cooperation and give a new impetus to its work.
The President of Iran reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation, noting the wide opportunities for trade and economic cooperation between Iran and Kazakhstan. Ibrahim Raisi expressed confidence that the agreements reached would become a solid foundation for further close cooperation.
In conclusion, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that Kazakhstan is firmly committed to the course of comprehensively strengthening cooperation with Iran and invited Ibrahim Raisi to pay a return visit to Kazakhstan.
