Kasimov says Uzbekistan wants defeat Vietnam
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan head coach Mirdjalal Kasimov has reiterated his commitment to Uzbekistan ahead of Tuesday’s qualifier against Vietnam.

Kasimov was considering his position after Uzbekistan lost last month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup play-off on penalties to Jordan, but the former midfielder has since decided to continue his second spell in charge of the national team.

And with Uzbekistan seeking a timely first win in Group E having drawn at home to Hong Kong before losing to group leaders the United Arab Emirates, Kasimov has revealed he will ring the changes at Pakhtakor Stadium.

“We don’t have enough points after two games and we have to beat Vietnam,” he said. “We have studied them well after they played two friendly games in Qatar. Vietnam played well in their two Asian Cup qualifiers against the UAE and Hong Kong, but our target is to win three points.

“I wanted to resign from my post, but I met with the Uzbekistan Football Federation President Mirabror Usmanov and I decided to continue with my post as I still have motivation to work.”

Vietnam are currently rooted to the foot of the Group D table after also losing to the UAE.

“Uzbekistan are a very strong team, they are one of the best teams in Asia and we respect them. Our aim is to play football and give them a battle on the field.” said coach Nguyen Van Ci, who is in temporary charge of the side for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

“We have watched both of Uzbekistan’s games with Jordan. Uzbekistan played well, they had a lot of control of the ball but lost on penalties. They are still a good side, but we will try to highlight their weak points.”
