Economy 24/10/2007 Kashkadarya regional authorities meet to discuss region’s performance
Council of deputies of Kashkadarya region met to discuss the fulfillment of the work on priority aspects for intensification of the socio-economic reforms outlined by the head of state Islam Karimov during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on 12 February this year. The khokim (mayor) of the region N.Zayniev presided at the meeting, UzA reported.

During the meeting it was noted that the regional GDP growth rate made up 9.1%, the growth of the volume of industrial production - 12.8%, the growth of the consumer goods production - 19.6%, and agricultural production - 6.1%.

Particularly notable are the achievements in the implementation of the reforms in the agricultural sector. This could be viewed at the example of the achievements of Kashkadarya region’s farmers. Instead of the low-profit or loss-making shirkats (collective farms), entrepreneurs in the region have created individual private farms, and the attitude to the land has changed accordingly: now all-round support of private farmers is viewed an important factor of the development of agricultural industry. This year farmers of the region have submitted some 426,000 tonnes of cotton to the government’s receiving points. They were among the first to complete their contractual obligations on the government order of cotton.

Also, the region pays strong attention to the development of industrial production. Scores of small business and private enterprises are opening here. More than 40 of them have attracted investments for some 4.9 billion soums. Positive results have been achieved at 21 enterprises included in the state programme of production recovery. As a result, production has grown by 20%.

The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan E.Shoismatov attended the meeting to familiarize with the achievements of the region.
