Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov: "The accident in Boysun was one of the most challenging, but its elimination took place in record time"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, elaborated on the scale of the accident in Boysun during the Lolazor podcast, describing it as one of the largest technological disasters in the country’s history.

According to him, this accident ranks among the six most significant incidents of its kind in Uzbekistan. Despite the challenging conditions, the elimination of its consequences occurred in the shortest possible time. The primary issue was the high concentration of hydrogen sulfide at the accident site, which led to equipment damage and further leaks. Nevertheless, specialists were able to temporarily stop the leak by installing a plug.

Mirzamakhmudov noted that international experts from Azerbaijan and the United States were involved in the accident elimination efforts, which facilitated a rapid response to the incident. He emphasized that this was one of the most prompt responses to such accidents in the country’s history.

One of the key challenges was the high gas pressure in the well, along with a complex chemical composition that included hydrogen sulfide. However, despite these difficulties, operations at the Boysun station were not halted, and work continues with all safety measures in place.

The minister also discussed the support measures provided to the local population immediately following the accident. On 1 September, he personally flew to Boysun to ensure that residents received the necessary assistance, including hot meals and temporary shelters. Evacuation and medical teams were deployed, and equipment was promptly delivered to address the aftermath.

Additionally, a gas monitoring system was established, with special sensors installed around the perimeter of the disaster zone to collect environmental data around the clock.

The minister emphasized that the work to eliminate the accident continues using advanced technologies and ongoing monitoring. Government agencies, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard, responded swiftly, helping to avoid panic among the population.

In conclusion, Mirzamakhmudov stated that all necessary compensations for the affected individuals will be paid, and support for local residents will be ensured through socio-economic programs.

Efforts to eliminate the accident are ongoing, and full safety for the population will be guaranteed in the near future, the minister noted.
