JICA provides US$126.177m loans to Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided two loans for total sum of 14.872 billion Japanese yens (about US$126.177 million) to Uzbekistan.

In particular, JICA issued 11.872 billion yens (about 100.724 million) to implementation of the project on modernization of Amu-Bukhara irrigation system.

Total cost of the project is US$350 million. The Asian Development Bank also issued US$220 million to this project.

In the Amu-Bukhara Irrigation System Rehabilitation Project, dilapidated pump stations in the Amu-Bukhara irrigation system will be rehabilitated to provide a stable supply of water for irrigation to farms in the system and to reduce the amount of power consumed. The project will be cofinanced by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aiming for more efficient and effective development with combined synergistic efforts.

JICA provided 3 billion yens (about US$25.448 million) to realization of the Electric Power Sector Capacity Development Project. The Electric Power Sector Capacity Development Project will work on human development issues such as strengthening the capacity to formulate plans to update such thermal power stations and construct new power plants, and the capacity to maintain and manage power plants, maximizing the effects of power plant modernization projects planned for the entire country, and promoting a long-term, stable supply of power and higher energy efficiency.

The exchange notes on loans were signed within the visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan led by First Deputy Prime-Minister of Uzbekistan - Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov.
