Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Japanese Sojitz Corporation plans to invest approximately US$1 billion in Uzbekistan as part of large-scale projects in the energy, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors, President of Sojitz Kosuke Uemura stated in an interview with the program Tahlilnoma on the O‘zbekiston 24 TV channel.

The company, with assets totaling nearly US$20 billion, intends to implement several significant initiatives, including the construction of a public hospital in Samarkand through a public-private partnership, the establishment of a 1,573 MW gas-fired power plant in the Syrdarya region, and a 1 GW wind power plant in the Navoiy region. Investments are also planned for the development of the international airport.

Kosuke Uemura emphasized that investment in Uzbekistan is possible thanks to the determination and transparency of the country’s leadership, as well as the government’s commitment to considering investors’ interests. “We highly value the country’s dynamic development and the trust shown to us by state authorities. This creates unique opportunities for implementing our projects,” he said.

As part of current investments, the company has already allocated tens of millions of dollars to energy and healthcare projects: approximately US$40 million for the construction of the Syrdarya-2 power plant, US$180 million for wind energy, US$75 million for the Samarkand hospital, and US$200 million for the airport.

The total cost of all planned projects is estimated at US$5 billion, with part of the investments to be carried out directly by Sojitz. The company’s total investment is expected to reach US$1 billion in the near future, Uemura emphasized.

Kosuke Uemura recently visited Uzbekistan. During his visit, Sojitz representatives held meetings with the government and relevant ministries to discuss not only current projects but also future investment opportunities.

Uemura noted the openness, diligence, and high professionalism of local specialists, which provides a reliable foundation for long-term cooperation.

Sojitz Corporation intends to become an active participant in Uzbekistan’s economic development, contributing to the implementation of strategically important projects in energy, infrastructure, and healthcare.

It is worth noting that the company showed interest in the Uzbek market as far back as 30 years ago, but concrete steps toward cooperation have been undertaken only in recent years. In 2004, Sojitz opened an office in Tashkent and developed a strategic roadmap for collaboration.
