Japanese government resigns

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The government of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in full force has resigned. This was announced on Wednesday, 16 September, by the office of the head of the Japanese government, TASS reports.

In the next few hours, the Japanese parliament will vote for a new prime minister. It is expected that he will be the new chairman of the country's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, Yoshihide Suga. After that, he will announce the composition of his new government. Most likely, most of the key posts will remain with the ministers who were part of the Abe government.

It is known that Defense Minister Taro Kono will leave his post, and his place will be taken by Nobuo Kishi, the younger brother of Abe, who was previously Deputy Foreign Minister. Kono will become the Minister of State responsible for civil service reforms.

On 14 September, it was confirmed that it was Suga who would become the new prime minister of Japan: he was elected the new leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

The impending resignation of Japanese Prime Minister Abe became known on 28 August. The decision was made due to health problems: ulcerative colitis, which had long tormented the politician, worsened. Abe said that he deeply apologizes for the inability to fulfill his duties and regrets that he did not achieve the conclusion of a peace treaty with Russia.
