Gazeta.uz reported the presidential resolution allowed the sides to carry out construction-assembly works simultaneously develop design estimates before approval of the feasibility study.

Tohoku Electric Power Co. will supply equipment for realization of modal project on construction of gas-turbine unit with capacity of 27 megawatt.

New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) allocated US$38 million to finance the project, while Uzbekenergo directed US$19 million of own resources.

The resolution said Uzbekistan will transfer all volume of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), received due to this project implementation, to NEDO after it is registered with Executive Board of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Tashkent heat and power plant is one of the main heat and power stations of Tashkent city and it was commissioned in 1961. The capacity of the plant is 22.5 megawatt. Currently, it produces 800 million kilowatt per hour electricity a year.

The modernization project of Tashkent plant envisages construction of three gas-turbine units with the capacity of 27 megawatt each. The project cost is US$142 million. Uzbekistan plans to attract funds of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to construction of two gas-turbine units.
