Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13 August, Japan recorded another daily maximum of infections - 20,293 cases
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference on Tuesday that the country is facing a crisis in the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus.
“In all regions, the number of people infected is growing rapidly, and the spread of infection is proceeding at an unprecedented rate. At the end of last week, more than 20 thousand cases of infection were detected per day, in connection with which the situation in this area has become a crisis,” Suga emphasized.
Meanwhile, the prime minister noted that the government does not intend to declare a lockdown in the country due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation, since, according to Suga, "further vaccination of the population would be a more effective measure."
As of 17 August, in Japan, 49.7% of the population received one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, 37.6% - two doses. Nevertheless, on 13 August, another daily maximum of coronavirus infections was recorded in the country - 20,293 cases. On the same day, the corresponding anti-record was updated in Tokyo - 5,773 cases.
To contain the spread of infection, the Japanese government decided on 17 August to extend the emergency situation (ES) in Tokyo and five more prefectures until 12 September. In addition, the regime was further expanded to include seven prefectures. In addition, by 12 September, another 16 prefectures will have strengthened measures against the spread of coronavirus. The corresponding regime and measures imply, in particular, a ban on the sale of alcohol in catering establishments and a restriction on the admission of spectators to public events.
