The MFA said that that the sides underlined that they pay special attention to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between two states, which is marked on 26 January 2012.

During the past period, Uzbekistan and Japan established close and multilateral relations in the spirit of the joint statement of friendship, strategic partnership and cooperation, signed in 2002.

The official visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Japan, which took place in 2011, gave new stimulus for development of bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and humanitarian spheres.

At the meeting, the sides discussed a schedule of upcoming the Uzbek-Japanese contacts in various levels and session of joint bodies on cooperation.
