The project is implemented within the no-string aid of the Government of Japan on anti-terrorism and security line. The Government of Japan issued 360 million yens (US$4.5 million).
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan Yosihisa Kuroda and First Deputy Chairperson of the State Customs Committee Shukhrat Hayrullaev.
Within the cooperation between two sides, Japan handed over X-ray and scanning equipment to automobile customs post Airiton in Surkhandarya region and Oybek Customs Post in Tashkent region within the first phase of the project.
Currently, the sides are implementing second phase and Galaba railway station received new equipment, which will help to improve border control in Uzbekistan.
Yosihisa Kuroda said that the cooperation is aimed at providing X-ray and scanning equipment for railway station Galaba, where there is high risk of drug and illegal products flow from Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
