Issues of monitoring and control mechanisms for diamond trade discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 October, a meeting with the expert mission of the Kimberley Process took place in Tashkent, focusing on diamond trade and the prevention of "conflict diamond" trade.

During the event, Uzbekistan reaffirmed its commitment to participating in the Kimberley Process, recognizing it as a crucial step toward responsible and transparent regulation of natural resource trade.

The parties discussed measures to enhance transparency in Uzbekistan’s economy and to develop the domestic jewelry production sector. Presidential Decree No. UP-104, issued on July 23, 2024, aimed at "Measures for the Further Development of the Jewelry Industry and Ensuring Its Competitiveness," is directed toward accelerating the country’s accession to the Kimberley Process.

It was noted that creating conditions for the import of diamond raw materials is a priority for the further development of the jewelry industry, essential for successful integration into the Kimberley Process framework.

In conclusion, there was a mutual readiness for further active cooperation, including the implementation of additional monitoring and control mechanisms for diamond trade in Uzbekistan.
