Issues of expanding regional cooperation with the OSCE in the field of ecology discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov held a meeting with the coordinator of economic and environmental activities of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Igli Hasani.

The sides discussed the prospects for developing cooperation at the regional level, in particular, the issues of introducing best practices and innovations in the field of ecosystem conservation.

The issues of development of environmental education and culture, prevention of climate change, sustainable food security and water resources management were also touched upon.

“It is planned to hold a regional seminar in Tashkent on eliminating climate risks and expanding cooperation in Central Asia,” said Aziz Abdukhakimov. “Our goal is to formulate specific proposals at the seminar, taking into account today's changes and achieve effective results in solving environmental problems.”

It is worth noting that at the meeting, the OSCE side highly appreciated the creation of the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change, and also noted the prospects for developing institutional capacity in the field of ecology and environmental protection, in particular, in the field of environmental journalism and environmental law.

In addition, Igli Hasani expressed his readiness to provide assistance in key areas of the new ministry, as well as on the issue of involving all OSCE instruments, including representatives and organizations in this area.

At the same time, the OSCE representative invited the heads of all ministries and departments in the field of environmental protection to a meeting scheduled for July this year in Vienna.

For reference, this meeting is aimed at expanding cooperation to eliminate climate risks in Central Asia.
