Sports 13/10/2008 Israeli Ambassador Hillel Newman visits Tashkent Challenger

The ongoing US$125,000 Tashkent Challenger had a surprise visitor, when the Israeli Ambassador to Uzbekistan Mr. Hillel Newman decided to witness some matches.

Mr. Newman witnessed a doubles match between Thailand’s Ratiwatana Brothers and the Israeli pair of Noam Okun and Harel Levy. He also spent time with the Israeli players Dudi Sela, Okun and Levy.

Having taken over just three weeks back, Mr. Newman said “I’m happy that players from Israel are playing in tennis events In Uzbekistan; this is one of the good sign of friendship between two countries and also shows growing relationships and commitments”.

A keen tennis enthusiast Mr. Newman added, “I’m glad that our country’s top player Dudi Sela is also playing at the event”.

Tennis is a popular sport and we give great importance to the sport and also follow the performances of the player and I’m glad to be here to watch the matches, he added.

Mr. Newman also added that sports play an important and integral part in development of relationships between countries, and said he was happy that Israeli players were also helping in building relationships.

The sporting Ambassador said though I’ve come here to encourage players from my country, and feel one of them would win here; all I would like to say is “May the best man win.”
