"As is known, PresidentIslam Karimov announced regarding Nagorno Karabakh problem that Uzbekistan has always spoken for the peaceful political resolution of the conflict on basis of adherence to the principle of preservation of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and execution of due resolutions of the UN Security Council and OSCE", said he.

The diplomat noted that the aforementioned resolution reconfirms main principles of Nagorno Karabakh problem resolution, which were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1993.

"In line with the declaration on further strengthening of strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, signed during the visit of President of Azerbaijan I.Aliyev to Uzbekistan on March 23 2004 the two countries support each other in the framework of various international and regional organizations. Azerbaijan appealed to Uzbekistan with a request to support Baku on the said issue considering the well-known position of Tashkent on the said problem. In other words, this is the issue of our bilateral cooperation", noted the diplomat.

According to him, when some countries, who were within the same organization with Uzbekistan, did not support Tashkent while voting on human rights in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York and UN Board of Human Rights in Geneva, Uzbekistan did not show its resentment.

"The recent voting in the UN General Assembly on Karabakh and Uzbekistan’s support of Azerbaijan evidence the consistent and successful development of bilateral cooperation between our countries", the diplomat concluded.
