Iraq sanctioned for ineligible player
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The UAE have been awarded a 3-0 victory in their London 2012 third round qualifying match against Iraq after FIFA found the Iraq Football Association guilty of fielding an ineligible player in the November 27 fixture.

The Group B match at the Sheikh Khalifa International Stadium in Dubai had originally ended in a 2-0 victory for Iraq but the three points were given to the UAE as Iraq fielded defender Jasim Faisal, who should have been suspended for that game.

Hatim, who plays his club football for 2011 AFC Cup quarter-finalists Duhok, was booked against Iran in the second round of qualifiers for this year's Olympics before picking up another yellow card in the round three game with Australia on November 22, which should have saw him sit out the following week's clash with the UAE.

Contravening article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code cost the Iraq FA 7000 Swiss Francs (US$ 7600 approx.) in fines and costs but more significantly it sees their Olympic team drop to the foot of the Group B standings below former basement-dwellers Australia with an amended total of one point, two behind the Olyroos while the three additional points takes the UAE's tally to eight and behind leaders Uzbekistan on goal difference.
