Economy04/02/2008Iran, Uzbekistan talk on customs co-op
Hashem Rahbar will meet and hold discussions with the head of Uzbekistan’s Customs Authority and a number of other high-ranking Uzbek officials.
Uzbekistan is one of Iran’s most important economic partners in Central Asia, with economic and trade ties between the two countries experiencing a growing trend during the past few years.
Cotton, colored metals and materials needed in the petrochemical industries are among the main exports of Uzbekistan to Iran, while the country imports machinery, citrus and other fruits from Iran.
Based on an agreement signed earlier between the two countries, some categories of export goods from each country enjoy preferential tariff rates.
A great portion of Uzbekistan’s exports to other countries transit through the Iranian territory, while, given its geographic position, it serves as a bridge for Iran to gain access to other Central Asian countries.
