Iran urges expansion of political ties with Uzbekistan - report
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi in a meeting with Uzbek Ambassador to Tehran Ilham Akramov stressed the necessity for the promotion of political relations between Iran and Uzbekistan.

Noting that the political relations between Iran and Uzbekistan have not developed along with their bilateral trade ties, Rahimi called for a full-scale expansion of political relations between the two countries.

"There is no obstacle and problem on the Iranian side for the promotion of the level of bilateral relations," he added.

Rahimi also referred to the plans by the Iranian government to invest in the railroad sector and linking Iran’s railroad to China, Turkey and Europe, and said implementation of the said railroad projects would be much advantageous to Uzbekistan as well, Fars News Agency reported.

The Uzbek envoy, for his part, referred to the documents inked in the two countries’ joint commission, and expressed the hope that implementation of these agreements would positively affect expansion of bilateral relations between Tehran and Tashkent.

He also urged for the bolstering of cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan in the field of transportation, and called for a series of experts meetings in the same ground.
