Uzbekistan 01/08/2007 Iran urges cooperation within SCO
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari has called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s observer members to expand their cooperation.

Mahdi Safari made the remark at a meeting with SCO Secretary General, Bolat Nurgaliev, in Beijing, IRNA reported.

The Iranian official called on SCO observer members to broaden their cooperation within the framework of specialized committees.

Iran, India, Pakistan and Mongolia are four observer members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Safari said that closer ties among the SCO observers would be in the interest of the regional states.

Iran is prepared to share its experience in campaign against drugs, terrorism and extremism as well as its technological know-how with the SCO member states, the official added.

For his part, the SCO secretary general highlighted Iran’s decisive role in regional and international developments.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in June 2001 and groups China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
