IPMI experts appreciated the barometer of economic activity of the regions of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) appreciated the barometer of economic activity (BAE) of the regions of Uzbekistan.

BEA reflects the trends of economic progress in the territories and is an effective tool for taking measures to reduce imbalances, search for decisions to increase business activity in the regions.

The BEA assessment in the context of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 12 regions and the city of Tashkent was carried out using the methods of relative differences and Patterna according to the 3rd components (production, entrepreneurial, foreign trade activity), including 12 statistical indicators.

According to the results of the assessment for 2017-2022, the following results were obtained:

- The relatively high level of economic activity was registered by Tashkent city, Jizzakh, Namangan, Andijan, Khorezm regions (BEA index above 0,500).

- In this group of territories (with the exception of Jizzakh region), the BEA is accompanied by dynamic growth of the economy (GRP growth for 2017-2022 above the republican parameter- 128.0%) mainly due to industrial production, retail trade, construction work, export of goods and services;

- Despite the moderate growth of GRP (123.7% for 2017-2022), the leading position of the BEA of Jizzakh region is ensured by stimulating the development of sectors of the economy (industry, service sector), entrepreneurship (growth of existing small business entities), introduction of modern technologies (imports machines and equipment);

- At the same time, BEA reflected in an increase in the level of development of the economy of Jizzakh, Namangan, Andijan, Khorezm regions.

The second group of territories with the average level of activity included Samarkand, Ferghana, Surkhandarya, Navoi regions (index BEA = 0.400-0,500) with the most dynamic development of entrepreneurship, but restraining the growth of production.

Relatively low economic activity (BEA index below 0.400) of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Surkhandary, Tashkent regions requires the study of the issues of placing capacities for the production of export-oriented finished products, taking into account the effective use of natural resources.

This problem is most relevant for regions with the agricultural orientation of the economy (Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya regions, where the share of agriculture in the GRP is more than 40%, industry-17-18%), a low level of economic development (Republic of Karakalpakstan, Kashkadarya, Ferghana, Surkhandaryinskaya regions whose per capita is 1.6-2.0 times lower than the corresponding indicator in the country).

In general, the BEA of the regions, observed in the period 2017-2022, contributed to the increase in the economic potential of less developed territories (Jizzakh, Namangan, Khorezm region). At the same time, the expansion of entrepreneurship and private business becomes a leading link in increasing the production and export potential of the regions.
