Ipak Yoli Bank becomes founder-member of UnionPay International
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Official presentation of UnionPay International (UPI), subsidiary of payment system China UnionPay (CUP), which runs its international business, was held in Shanghai, China, in November 2012.

Before the opening ceremony, representatives of over 60 Chinese and foreign commercial banks met at the Founder-Members Meeting. The sides considered and signed general rules of membership in UnionPay International. They also elected working body of UnionPay International – its council, which includes representatives of 24 financial institutions.

Within the presentation, First Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Ipak Yoli Bank Alisher Mirzayev held meeting with the UnionPay International Co., Ltd. President Cai Jianbo held a bilateral meeting to discuss perspectives of cooperation.

The Uzbek bank said in a statement that organizational structure of UnionPay International as founder-members is evidence for intention of China UnionPay to strengthen its global status based on mutual cooperation principles.

The bank said that invitation of the Ipak Yoli bank to become founder-member of UnionPay International is acknowledgement of its international partner. This will allow the Uzbek bank to participate in adoption of important decisions of UnionPay International activities.

Chinese payment system UnionPay was founded at the support of People's Bank of China in 2002. After two years, the system started to work outside of China and currently UnionPay system is served in over 135 countries/

UnionPay is on the first place on number of emitted banking payment cards. In 2011, the system issued 45.11% of credit and debit cards in circulation in the world (6.54 billion cards).
