International experts discuss development of vegetable-growing
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Fifth meeting of head committee of network on research and development of vegetable-growing in Central Asia and Caucasus is taking place in Tashkent.

The meeting is aimed at reviewing of cooperation on regional variety trial of vegetables, innovative technologies, training and capacity building, exchange of experience, discussing existing barriers to further development of research and vegetable-growing, as well as determining direction for future cooperation in Central Asia and South Caucasus .

The event brought together national coordinators on research and development of vegetable growing, experts from Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), representatives of the World Vegetable Center and international organizations.

Over 7 billion people live in the earth and it requires sustainable development of agriculture and food sectors. Currently, the governments develop strategy for sustainable development of agriculture and transfer to market economy.

Vegetable growing is one of important sectors of agriculture industry in all countries of Central Asia and Caucasus. Production of vegetable in Central Asia and Caucasus grew from 13 million to 17 million tonnes in five years. They annually increase areas, which allocated to production of vegetables.

Participants of the meeting discussed results of cooperation and prepare plan for further development of science research for vegetable growing in the region.
