International Advisory Committee launched

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Careful preservation and enhancement of the historical, cultural and intellectual heritage, culture and traditions of the Uzbek people, widespread promotion of their achievements among the growing harmoniously developed generation remains one of the important tasks set by Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev in front of the government of the country and in order to implement these instructions on 15 September, the ceremony of the official launch of the activities of the International Advisory Committee on Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan was held in the Nurillaboy complex in Khiva.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Director of the World Heritage Center Joty Khosograkhar, Director of the International Research Center for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) Webber Ndoro, UNESCO Director in Uzbekistan Alexandros Makarigakis, representatives of the leadership regions where World Heritage sites and Committee members are located.

The Committee was created in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 371 dated June 14, 2021 and currently it includes 8 foreign, 2 local experts and 3 representatives of international organizations (ICOMOS, IKKROM and CRAterre).

The main activities of the International Advisory Committee are to strengthen the protection of tangible cultural heritage sites and territories (sites) included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, consider issues arising in the process of their protection and rational use, improve the qualifications of personnel, prepare proposals and recommendations for the rational development of historical cities to create a decent lifestyle for the population and other issues related to the preservation of the country’s historical and cultural heritage.
